FHS CHEER TRYOUTS WEEK STARTS APRIL 10TH

Tryouts week is April 10th-14th, 2023

Materials Days are April 10th-12th, 3:45-4:45 pm (attendance at all days is mandatory)

  • Learning technique

  • Teaching cheers

  • Learning tryouts routine

Final Tryout is April 14th

  • Tryout in front of judges (FHS Cheer coaches)

  • Scored on ability to execute all skills learned during materials days

  • PREPARE TO STAY AS LATE AS 7pm IF NECESSARY

Post-Tryouts

There will be a mandatory team parent meeting for parents of cheerleaders that are placed on a team on Wednesday, April 19th at 5:30pm.


What you need to tryout (please read through each list item):


  1. Completed and Signed Cheer Contract 


    1. Requires a copy of most current progress report

    2. All parts of the contract and progress report must be printed and turned in to Coach Gomez on April 10th at tryouts. (Students can print documents in the school Library)

  2. TWO Teacher Recommendations (email the document to your teachers)


    1. Recommendations must be emailed to Coach Gomez directly from the teachers to ensure accuracy of recommendations.

  3. Completed FHS Athletic Clearance (all documents must be completed through the Athletics Department, NOT sent to Coach)


    1. This process requires that your child receive a physical evaluation from their Primary Care Provider and submit a copy of their medical insurance card.

    2. If you already have a current (within the past year) Athletic Clearance on file with the FHS Athletics Department from a different sport, you do not need to complete this step. 

  4. Parent AND Athlete attendance at the pre-tryouts Parent Meeting: Wed. March 29th @ 5:30pm in the FHS “Bowl” (area in front of school clock tower).


All items enumerated in the list above are a REQUIREMENT for participation in the tryouts process. Failure to complete any of the above list items will result in ineligibility to tryout for the 2023 Cheer season.



General Information

  • FHS Cheerleading is a year-round commitment with a Football Season, a Basketball Season, and a Competition Season.
  • We hold tryouts in the Spring for the following year's teams.
  • Tryout dates are usually announced in the beginning of March, with a week-long tryout taking place in the first week of April.
  • Practices start in April and run through the Summer into the following school year.
  • For anyone interested in joining the '23-'24 team next April 2023, the requirements are as follows:
    • A sports physical and athletic clearance on file with the FHS Athletics Department
    • Good academic standing (2.0 and above)
    • TWO academic teacher recommendations
    • A completed cheer contract
    • Attendance at the pre-tryouts parent meeting
    • Attendance to all days of tryouts week
