Four senior students brought home six medals from the San Diego County Academic Decathlon Competition held at Olympian High School Saturday, February 6. Bethany Weber, Wade Colburn, Edward Casey, and Dane McKissick were the big winners from the eight-student team. Weber led the way with a trifecta, winning a gold in Mathematics, a silver in Language and Literature, and a bronze in Science. Colburn won a gold in Interview, posting a perfect score of 1000, while Casey took a silver in Science and McKissick took a bronze Mathematics. By medaling twice each in the Science and Mathematics categories, the Warrior Academic Decathlon team took third place in the team standings in those categories. Casey was the team's highest overall scorer, finishing with 5,117.9 points. Daniel Ramos, Annapolis bound, had the team’s second highest score at 4,922.9 points, and Colburn had 4,892.9 points for the third highest score. Overall, the Warrior Academic Decathlon team finished 7th in a field of 16. All the top placing schools have for-credit classes for Academic Decathlon while the students at Fallbrook High do all of their training on a volunteer basis. Academic Decathlon requires teams to compete in ten different academic areas with a new theme each year. This year the theme was the French Revolution. Teachers Debbie Berg, Dave Evans, and Tracy Markham are the team coaches.
